Position Summary

This position includes teaching master's level courses in the environment and community program and the center for creative change. This position also involves participating in regularly scheduled center and university meetings and on special committees and university task forces for the center for creative change.


Essential Functions/Accountabilities

Teaching, Advising & Admissions

  • Teach a minimum of six three-credit courses per year, or, if the courses involve different credit increments, teach at least eighteen credits per year. Course assignments will be made in consultation with the director and in light of specific center needs.
  • Provide advising for up to 28 students in center programs, including the assessment of academic progress (independent studies, etc.), help with other aspects of the students' relationship with the educational environment at the university and the completion of final reviews related to graduation.
  • Serve as thesis advisor for master's students in the environment and community program and other programs, as appropriate.
  • Conduct admission interviews with applicants and make recommendations to the director regarding admission decisions in individual cases; follow up with situations involving conditional admissions which require additional monitoring.

Administration

  • Participate in regularly-scheduled center and university meetings/retreats for discussion of relevant policy and procedures, for development of strategic objectives and directions and for discussion of topics in teaching/advising, student standards, adjunct faculty relations and curriculum development.
  • Serve, as requested by the director, on special committees and task forces for the program in the center.

Professional/Scholarly Activities

  • Contribute to the creation and sharing of knowledge, through active participation in dialogue with professional peers and colleagues in the discipline, profession, and/or educational community.
  • Participate in activities for professional development (conferences, seminars, workshops, courses) as relevant to areas of special expertise and interest.

Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in environmental studies or a related area from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working professionally outside academia in environmental studies or a related field.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university level, preferably with an adult student population.

Environmental and Job Hazards
